The Northwest Viet Nam Loop
Ha Noi – Mai Chau – Moc Chau – Dien Bien Phu – Sa Pa
Duration : 5 days 4 nights
This is fantastic adventure through some of Vietnam’ most scenic and culturally rich landscapes. It is famous for dramatic mountains, ethnic diversity, winding mountain passes, terraced rice fields. You are not only admire stunning landscapes but also learn about the resistance of vietnamese people for independence via visiting historical relics and authentic experiences with dailylife, customs, cultures of hill tribes.
Day 1 : Ha Noi – Mai Chau
Meals: lunch, dinner/ Accommodation: private room in homestay
The private car and tour guide pick up you at your hotel. Depart for Mai Chau via the highway 6 about 150km with the view of green fields of rice, sugar cane, tapiocas and orange plantations . Along the way you will stop to see the stunning landscape, take photos and see Muong people in Thung Khe pass.

Upon your arrival Mai Chau, we take a walk 1,5 hours to visit surrounding peaceful villages with green fields, traditional stilt houses and see local people weaving clothes, scraves
Drive 10 km to Mai Hich. It is backyard of Mai Chau, untouch place. Check in homestay and have luch.
In the afternoon, you can take a walk or biking in villages (Ban Hich – Ban Den – Ban Ngoa – Sam Khoe – Ban Buoc) to see the view of towering limestone mountains, river, green fields and step on chain bridges. You see daily life of Thai people who live in stilt house and fammer working in the fields, fishing, feeding buffaloes. Visit and talk to get to know the daily life of local’ villagers.
After 3 hours, we will return to the traditional house on stilts of our friendly Thai host for dinner and overnight.
Day 2 : Mai Chau – Moc Chau – Son La – Tuan Giao
Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner/ Accommodation: hotel in Tuan Giao
Waking up to breath fresh air of mountains, rice fields, villages.
Have breakfast and say goodbye to homestay.
We drive 40 km to Van Ho on old national way 6 through pristine forests, ethnic villages to visit Tat Nang waterwall. It is breathtaking natural highlight and known as Fairy waterfall. You see the waterfall plunges over 100 meters in total height in lush greenery.
Passing Moc Chau highland with beautiful flowers, the town of black Thai and H’Mong people. It is 1.050m above sea level, This is a chance for you to visit dairy farm and tea plantation for discovering the best Vietnam’s tea growing region along the roads and on the hillsides.
Have lunch in local restaurant.
Visit Son La prision – historical site which was built in the French colonial period.
Keep driving to conquer Pha Din Pass. With 32 km length on the high way 6 and is one of four great mountain passes of Vietnam. Fom the top of Pha Din Pass is 1500 metters above sea level, you enjoy a fantastic panoramic of the charming valley encompassed by the cloud all year around.
We finally reach Tuan Giao for overnight.
Day 3 : Tuan Giao – Dien Bien Phu – Lai Chau
Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner/ Accommodation: hotel in Lai Chau
After breakfast, we drive 50km to Dien Bien Phu – the land of history
Visit the historical site of the Vietnamese – French war, Dien Bien Phu Museum, A1 Hill and De Catries bunker to understand more about great resistance war for independence and freedom of the Vietnamese people.
Continue our trip through sloping passes, misty mountain ranges, the local markets and valleys of terraced fields
Enjoy the peaceful countryside along the Nam Na River
Along the way. Sometime, we stop for photos and visit the H’mong and Dzao villages, communicate with honest locals and understand more about their culture
Arrival in Lai Chau, have dinner and overnight in Lai Chau
Day 4 : Lai Chau – Sapa
Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner / Accommodation: homestay in Giang Ta Chai village.
Visit weekly market (it depend on your departure date) to watch local products of ethnic people
From Lai Chau to Sapa, we drive though Tam Duong town and over O Quy Ho pass with the height 2000 metter above sea level, Viet Nam‘s highest mountain pass and considered the most beautiful stretch of road in the country. From here, you can enjoy the beautiful areas of Heaven’s Gate, amazing view from Hoang Lien Son mountain range and Silver Waterfall en route
Have lunch in Sapa Town
The car will take you to trekking point in Sa Seng village, village of Hmong people. We trek up hill through narrow trails less tourists, sometimes rocky paths, passing small hamlet of black H’mong people to Sa Seng with the views surrounding. Keep trekking up to Hang Da villages get expansive of Muong Hoa valley, especially on clear days. The trek offer beautiful views of valley drops, mist often, rice terraces, cornfileds, forest patches, mountains, streams.
Dinner with your host family – enjoy authentic local food and cultural exchange
Day 5 : Sapa – Ha Noi
Meals: breakfast, lunch/ Accommodation: not included
Have breakfast with pancake in homestay. Start your trek from Giang Ta Chai to Hau Thao, continue to Su Pan village, a quiet hilltop area with panoramic views of valleys, rivers, mountain ranges, terraced rice paddies.
Trek downhill to Ban Den Village, inhabited by the Tay people.
Have lunch in the village
Driving back to Ha Noi visa express way Noi Bai – Lao Cai
Drop off you at your hotel. Tour end at 21.00
Note: homestay in Giang Ta Chai village are on the second floor. It is large communal area. You will sleep with a single soft mattress, blanket, pillow, mosquito net. The restroom is few steps from main house with international standard
