This journey takes you deep into Northern Viet Nam, combining the dramatic landscapes of Ha Giang – Dong Van Global Geopark with the peaceful beauty of Ba Be Lake, the largest freshwater lake in Viet Nam.
Ha Giang captivates travelers with its raw natural beauty—winding mountain passes, towering limestone cliffs, deep valleys, canyons, and colorful ethnic markets. Ba Be Lake, nestled among dense jungles and limestone mountains, offers a serene contrast with emerald waters and untouched nature.
Both regions are home to diverse ethnic communities such as the Giay, Dao, H’Mong, Tay, and Nung, offering rich cultural encounters and authentic local experiences.
Day 1: Ha Giang – Ha Giang – Quan Ba
Meals: Lunch, Dinner/ Accommodation: Bungalow in Nam Dam village
07:00 AM: Your private car and tour guide pick you up at your hotel in Ha Noi. Drive approximately 6 hours (330 km) to Quan Ba, enjoying scenic views of peaceful countryside, tea plantations, rivers, and mountains along the way.
– Have lunch at a local restaurant en route.
– Continue along winding mountain roads to Quan Ba Heaven Gate, stopping to admire and photograph the famous Twin Mountains (Fairy Bosom).
– Trekking about 2 hours from Quan Ba Heaven Gate down to Nam Dam Village, passing terraced hills, lush fields, and traditional Dao houses.
– Dinner and overnight at a Dao ethnic homestay. Spend time with your friendly host to learn about local lifestyle, customs, and culture.
Day 2 : Quan Ba – Yen Minh – Dong Van – Ma Pi Leng Pass – Nho Que river – Meo Vac
Meals : Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner/ Accommodation: Hotel in Meo Vac
Today you travel along the legendary Happiness Road, crossing four districts: Quan Ba, Yen Minh, Dong Van, and Meo Vac. You will explore the Dong Van Karst Plateau, where nearly 80% of the area is covered by limestone formed over 400 million years ago. The scenery is truly majestic, with dramatic cliffs, terraced rice fields, winding passes, and deep valleys.
– After breakfast, drive through winding mountain passes with spectacular views, including famous sections with three consecutive bends and nine consecutive bends.
– Stop at the Moon Stone Field, a unique rocky landscape known for its barren beauty.
– Visit the H’Mong King’s Palace, a nearly 100-year-old complex blending H’Mong, Chinese, and French architectural styles.
– Lunch at a local restaurant and continue through Dong Van town.
– Drive along the Ma Pi Leng Pass (20 km), known as the King of Passes in Viet Nam.
– Trek along the Sky Path, the most dramatic trail on the Dong Van plateau, offering breathtaking views over Tu San Canyon and the Nho Que River far below.
– Take a boat trip on the Nho Que River, cruising through Tu San Canyon—the deepest canyon in Southeast Asia.
– Dinner and overnight in Meo Vac town.
Day 3 : Meo Vac – Ba Be Lake
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner/ Accommodation: Homestay in Ba Be
– Breakfast and check-out.
– Visit Meo Vac Sunday Market (Sunday only), a vibrant meeting place for ethnic groups such as the H’Mong, Dao, Giay, Lo Lo, and Tay, dressed in colorful traditional costumes.
Note: If the Sunday market is missed, another local market can be arranged depending on your departure date.
– Say farewell to Dong Van Global Geopark and drive along National Road 34 to Ba Be Lake, passing pine forests and ethnic villages.
– Check in at a traditional Tay homestay in Pac Ngoi Village.
– Cycling from Pac Ngoi Village to Hua Ma Cave, enjoying stunning scenery of forests, rivers, and rice fields surrounded by limestone mountains. Stop to meet Tay people and learn about their daily life, customs, and culture.
– Visit Hua Ma Cave, famous for its impressive stalactites and stalagmites.
– Dinner and cultural exchange with your host family.
Homestay note: You will stay in a traditional Tay stilt house, sleeping on the second floor in a private room with a soft mattress, blanket, pillow, and mosquito net. Bathrooms are of international standard and located a few steps from your room.
DAY 4 : Ba Be Lake – Ha Noi
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner/ Accommodation: Not included
– Wake up to fresh mountain air and enjoy breakfast.
– Take a motorboat trip on Ba Be Lake and Nang River, admiring emerald waters surrounded by pristine forests and ethnic villages.
– Visit Puong Cave, where the river has carved impressive stalactites and stalagmites through limestone formations.
– Trek to Dau Dang Waterfall.
– Enjoy a refreshing swim in the lake on the way back.
– Lunch at a local restaurant, then drive back to Ha Noi with scenic stops along the way.
– Drop-off at your hotel in Ha Noi. Tour ends.
